Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Limited Edition Stamps
Q. Is my stamp rare?
A. That depends on how you define "rare." Each person also has a slightly different definition of rare. Some people believe that one particular trait in the collection is more important than other traits, and that having a stamp with that one important trait means the stamp is "rare." For example, for the Sirens, most people believe that the "Siren" trait (what type and color of siren you have) is the single most important factor in what makes a Siren stamp rare. For the First Store stamps, most people believe that the "Icon" trait (what icon type and color icon you have) is the single most important factor in what makes a First Store stamp rare. Other people believe you have to take into account all the traits and not just one. If you take into account all the traits, there is even further scholarly disagreement about how you should calculate or quantify the stamp's rarity (i.e. whether to average the trait percentages or multiply the trait percentages; or whether traits should be weighted equally or some weighted more than others). The merits of those ideas and the methodology for those calculations are beyond the scope of this article.
Q. Is there a way to rank the stamps in order from rare to common?
A. Currently, there is no such function on the Odyssey Market for Odyssey stamps. You may notice that on other websites (and even on Nifty Gateway's own website), that other NFTs can be sorted by rarity. The authors of this website believe that Starbucks intentionally made the decision to not have a simple tool to rank Odyssey stamps from rare to common so that people buy and collect what they like, and not because a number tells them that this stamp is rare.
Q. How much is my stamp worth?
A. This is a difficult question to answer because we have seen stamp prices change drastically based upon market conditions. Prices can fluctuate with demand and requirements for other tasks. For example, at one point the Signature Showdown journey stamps were selling for about $80 each due to a spike in demand because Odyssey users had to own two journey stamps for early access to the First Store mint.
Limited edition stamps can vary in price depending on their rarity and eye-appeal. Siren stamps minted at $100 each, and then were selling for about $600-$700 each during their peak. The highest sale price for a siren was $3,000.00. First Store stamps were minted at $100 each, and then were selling for about $225 each during their peak. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone is willing to pay a different price for stamps. It only takes one person to love your stamp and be willing to pay well above market price for it.
In most instances, at minimum, your stamp is worth the "floor price" -- the price of the lowest priced stamp -- from the same collection. Refer to the Odyssey Market to find the lowest asking price for a stamp in the same collection. Please keep in mind though that your stamp could be worth more -- perhaps a lot more -- if has a rare trait or if it is more visually appealing than the average stamp.
